The latest developer diary for The Isle brings exciting insights into the ongoing developments of the game. From biomechanical improvements to new dinosaurs and interesting gameplay elements, here's everything you need to know.
Biome updates and new environments
In the latest update, the entire island has been overhauled. Jace has worked hard to perfect the feel of every area, from forests and jungles to redwood forests and mangroves. The mangroves in particular required additional customization to create the desired semi-aquatic locations and unique retreats.
In addition, small AI creatures, from rats and lizards to snails and insects, are integrated into the game. These "little snacks" are ideal meals for small carnivores, omnivores and juveniles.
The progress of the dome
The development of the dome continues to progress, with the entrances updated and the outer shell almost complete. There are four main entrances with several secondary pathways specifically designed for smaller creatures and climbers.
Building credible interiors for a structure of this size is a challenge. A lot of expansion has been done to make it possible to traverse the interior spaces and avoid encounters.
New and upcoming dinosaurs
The Kentrosaurus was recently introduced, although its development took longer than expected. Its defense ability is still being improved to make damage reflection and defensive stance more effective.
The Austroraptor and possibly the Oviraptor will be available for HordeTest in a future update. The Oviraptor will have a unique ability to sniff out active nests of other species and steal eggs.
Playable customizations and other new features
The Pteranodon has received additional updates to increase its threat to smaller animals. The Quetzalcoatlus is also in development, with impressive animations that emphasize its speed and lethality.
The sound team is working on the final details of the Baryonyx before moving on to new species such as the Avaceratops, Camarasaurus and Parasaurolophus, with the calls of the Parasaurolophus in particular expected to provide a playable edge.
The updated skin system will be integrated during the HordeTest, with new color options and the ability to mix different palettes. However, eye customizations will not be available until after the current test.
Game mechanics and Elders system
Hill slides will be introduced, causing animals to lose momentum when going downhill and slow down when going uphill. This feature helps players to better orient themselves and avoid accidents.
The Elders system will be further adjusted so that animals can spend more of their lives at the peak of their physical condition before their attributes decrease.
