Life on the island is merciless. So that you don't end up as a juvenile in the stomach of another dinosaur, we have written this survival guide for you. The Isle is a survival dinosaur simulator. Every mistake in the game is punished immediately and can lead to your death. Follow our tips and you will increase your chances of growing your baby dino into a full-grown prehistoric giant.

Lesson #1: Remember! - The Isle is not a dino deathmatch game but a survival game
In other words - it's not the number of kills or headshots that counts (hello, dear Counterstrike players!) but sheer survival. Many YouTube videos or streams may give the impression that The Isle is a fast-paced dino PVP game with a deathmatch character - but this is wrong. Much more important in The Isle is playing with foresight, listening carefully to and interpreting environmental sounds and correctly assessing and weighing up dangerous situations.
Don't immediately charge at another dinosaur and don't throw yourself into battle unprepared or with half your stamina. As a carnivore, you should only seek out confrontations or battles with other prehistoric giants in The Isle when you're hungry. As a herbivore, on the other hand, you should hide in the botany as much as possible - especially in the first 30-45 minutes - and only roam open plains if your diet plan makes it absolutely necessary.
Be aware that there could be a carnivore lurking behind every bush and tree, just waiting for you to get careless.
Lesson #2: Know your surroundings and make use of them
If you are not yet familiar with the different areas on the island, you will find it difficult to orient yourself at first. Get an overview of the island and take a look at the Vulnona Map. Use bushes, trees and forests to hide as often as possible. This is especially important as a newly spawned herbivore.
Lesson #3: Size does matter!
In real life, would you want to fight someone 2 times your size and 5 times your weight? No? - Exactly. And it's no different in The Isle. Every dinosaur that's bigger than you has
- more bite power (does more damage per hit)
- more hitpoints
- a higher blood pool (takes longer for him/her to bleed out)
Only attack larger/equal opponents in a group or get out of their way. Otherwise, you should initially feed on small AI animals (chickens, rabbits, wild boars, goats, deer, fish, etc.) to survive. The more hungry you are, the more risks you should take. In other words, if your stomach is already red and you are on the verge of starvation, you can dare to attack larger opponents.
Lesson #4: Know your dinosaur's strengths and weaknesses
Every dinosaur has its own style of play and therefore its own strengths and weaknesses. A Deinosuchus may be invincible in the water, but on land it is sluggish, gets thirsty quickly and uses up its stamina fairly quickly. A Utah is fast and agile, its pounce makes opponents bleed out faster, but 3 bites from a full-grown Carnotaurus and you're kissing the ground. A Carnotaurus, on the other hand, can ram its opponents (only lighter opponents, otherwise it backfires!) and immobilize them for 2 seconds. (= death sentence for Utahs).
Familiarize yourself with your dinosaur beforehand and take a look at our dinosaur overview. There you will find information, tips and tricks on the respective dinosaurs, their strengths and weaknesses, as well as their special attacks.
Lesson #5: Silence!
In "The Isle", your dinosaur makes a short noise after sending every chat message you type ingame. Therefore, you should only write something in the local chat if it is absolutely necessary, otherwise you run the risk of attracting the attention of other dinosaurs. Careless chatting in "The Isle" has cost many a player (including myself) their life a few times.
Pro players know about this "disadvantage" and therefore often communicate via voice chat/discord.
