Frequently Asked Questions

How do i switch from Legacy to Evrima in The Isle?

The Isle has been in development for many years. The live branch on Steam is called "Legacy," and when you purchase The Isle on Steam, the Legacy version of the game is installed by default. To play "Evrima," you need to go to The Isle's game page, navigate to Settings (gear icon) → Betas → evrima → EVRIMA Public Branch (video tutorial). Steam will then download a large update and upgrade the Legacy version to the new (Early Access) Evrima version. After restarting the game, you’ll be able to play Evrima.

Evrima und Legacy - Where is the difference?

In almost every aspect, Evrima outshines Legacy. Evrima is built on the Unreal Engine 5 and features improved graphics, but it is also much more demanding on hardware. Additionally, as an Early Access version, Evrima is still poorly optimized, which can lead to significant frame drops. The better your computer hardware, the more enjoyable your experience with the Evrima version of The Isle will be.

Unlike Legacy, Evrima also offers far fewer playable dinosaurs to choose from. However, the combat system in Evrima is much more dynamic and faster. Both versions have strong fan communities, with dedicated supporters for both Evrima and Legacy.

Will the Evrima-version replace the Legacy Version?

The plan is that sooner or later, Legacy will be replaced by Evrima, making Evrima the new standard. Legacy is no longer being developed, and all resources are now focused on programming new features, mechanics, and additional dinosaurs for the Evrima version of the game.

Where can i buy The Isle and play it on Steam?

Who is the developer behind "The Isle"?

The Isle is being developed by a small independent studio called Afterthought LLC, based in North America.

Is there an official Discord for The Isle?

Yes, there is, and Discord is also the main communication channel for the developers. You can join the The Isle Discord here. However, note that the language used there is English. If you're new and looking for a helpful German-speaking community, we recommend the Isla Oscura Discord, which also has its own Evrima server.

Is this the official Website for the game?

No. This website is a private premium fansite made by fans of the game. Currently our work here is not supported in any way by the developers of the game.

The July update of the developer diary for 'The Isle' offers exciting insights into the latest developments. From technical improvements to new gameplay elements, the developers have been working hard to further improve the game experience. However, one drawback remains: The AI spawn problem and the poor performance since the last patch have still not been fixed.

Islander, the time has come!
After an intensive test phase on the Hordetest servers, the Triceratops is now officially playable on all Evrima servers. With the 0.20.109 update, The Isle not only brings a brand new, playable animal, but also a wealth of improvements, bug fixes and balance adjustments.

With the upcoming release of the Triceratops in the Evrima version, another heavyweight is heading to the island - but that's by no means all that happened in May with the developers of The Isle. From new plants and audio improvements to the foundation stone for the Elder System - here's an overview of Dev Blog #59.

In his latest video, YouTuber Zenny calls The Isle “the worst game in the history of Early Access.” His criticism is sharp, sometimes unfair, but often disturbingly accurate. But is the game really as broken as he claims? Or could there be one of the most innovative multiplayer concepts of our time hidden in all that chaos? This article seeks to do both: understand and explain.

On March 15th we had another Q&A session with KissenKitten (The Isle developer) in the official Discord chat. We used AI to extract the most important information from the news video by Ssik987, who kindly edited the chats from the Discord into German in his latest video.

On March 6th there was a new update for the Hordetesting-Branch of Evrima. The Triceratops prototype was also activated and is now playable for everyone on the Hordetesting servers. However, some animations and sounds are still missing and the sparring mode is deactivated for the time being.
